Double Buccs Fizz!!
Bournemouth Buccaneers added the National Development League championship to their KO Cup prize thus securing the top honours double at their class in their inaugural season. Having given themselves a solid first leg grounding the Buccaneers did an excellent job of restraining the Plymouth Devils in Friday's deciding match to bring the curtain down on an excellent debut seasonTrading 4-2's in the early stages Bournemouth refused to allow Plymouth to make too much headway and with Jerran Hart in maximum form once again it was fitting that he claimed the race victory in heat 10 that mathematically secured the title for Bournemouth. Holding a 28 point first leg lead Hart's rider replacement outing, supported by a third place from Andrew Aldridge (under pressure from Devils guest Adam Allott who had been penalised with a 15 metre handicap for a tapes infringement), put the margin on the night back to just a two point difference (31-29) which left the Devils insufficient heats to claw back that carried over deficit. Hart, who earlier in the season achieved a 7-ride full house at the St Boniface Arena went on to show his clear liking for the place being unbeaten in each of the six rides he took this time around. The Ipswich asset also claimed a proud unbeaten 12 ride play-off record and he revelled in the support given, to all the Buccaneers, by the enthusiastic gathering of Buccaneer's supporters on the third bendIt was in front of those travelling supporters where skipper Jay Herne had got into difficulties in heat 5, spinning out of control and bringing partner Danny Warwick down in the process. Herne also hit the deck there in heat 11 when Aaron Baseby locked up in front of him forcing Herne and Pickard to swiftly lay their machines down, but it was a region of the circuit where all the Buccaneers rushed to after heat 15 to acknowledge their supporters with a team bow celebrating their 104-82 aggregate victory.

The Bournemouth Buccaneers produced yet another stylish home performance to hammer Buxton 57 – 39 ( 105 – 83 on aggregate ) to walk off with the National League Knockout Cup.
“ I am so pleased for the team “ said Buccaneers team manager Garry May “ It’s like a dream coming true. We have worked hard as a team since the start of the season and hoped that we would be able to pick up a trophy by the end of the year.”
“ We looked solid throughout with everyone in the side riding well, from our skipper Jay Herne, right down to our reserves.”
“ Now we have to keep focussed on making it a double when we meet Plymouth in the finals of the National League championships play – off. It would be a great way to sign off our first season in the sport by winning a league and cup double.”
With a four point lead from the first leg at Buxton already under the belts, the Buccaneers tore into the Hitmen from the start running in two maximum heat wins from the opening two races of the meeting. Herne and Warwick started the ball rolling with a tapes to flag victory in Heat One, with Aldridge and Baseby repeating the dose in the very next race.
Buxton stopped the rot when Craig Cook raced home for a double points tactical ride in Heat 5 but a series of heat wins saw Bournemouth extend their advantage to lead by 15 points by the half way mark. Ben Taylor hit back for the Hitmen with another tactical race win in Heat 9 to narrow the gap to 10 points in what was a the last throw of the dice for the visitors.
With the meeting result a foregone conclusion, it was left to Jay Herne to produce a piece of Poole speedway history, with the likeable Australian breaking the club record for the all time number of unbeaten races around the Wimborne Road track. Herne started the evening on 32 before reeling off four straight wins to pass the old mark of 35 and set a new standard of 36. Unfortunately for him his record breaking run came to end in Heat 15 when he was headed home by Buxton’s Craig Cook.
